About Me
My family have always said I was born with a pair of silver scissors in my hand - I’ve been on a mission to create masterpieces with fabric and thread from such a young age. I must have driven my Mum mad asking “Mummy, what can I make?”! I gravitate towards any piece of fabric, to use, reuse, recycle or just ensure no scrap is wasted.
Years of making my own clothes, soft furnishings, cuddly toys, fancy dress costumes, dresses for dolls….the list goes on. I’ve had the joy of making many ball gowns, wedding dresses, bridesmaids’ dresses, and bespoke outfits for grooms too. And when time permits, I turn to tatting, bobbin lacemaking and cross-stitch.
I have an ‘O’ Level in Dressmaking and have studied Tailoring as well as self-learning from books and many commercial patterns. Just for fun, in lockdown, I attended a virtual course with the V&A Museum Academy in quarter-scale haute couture hand sewing - and presented a completely hand stitched miniature dress, together with my own quarter-scale hand made tailor’s dummy. Life felt like it couldn’t get any better!
I’ve had years of training experience - teaching software applications in the corporate world, as well as guiding others in sewing and lacemaking in person and online.
I live in the pretty village of Gedney Hill, in South Lincolnshire. My purpose built sewing studio is in the grounds of the old windmill, where the sails turned from 1824 - 1926.
The Sewing Room offers a delightful environment in which to attend a fitting or learn to sew. It is packed with beautiful things to inspire your imagination from handmade toys, jewellery and garments to reference books and patterns.
