Tatting
This beautifully delicate old lace craft, developed in the 19th century from netting techniques, creates stunning jewellery out of cotton thread and glass beads.
Tatting with a shuttle became popular in the 19th century.
Mrs. Isabella Beeton dedicated the first section of her “Book of Needlework” to shuttle tatting, proving the craft’s popularity in around 1870. The lace patterns were used to embellish collars and caps, cravats, lingerie and small purses. By the 1950’s the craft had developed into pretty and practical (for the time!) home items, for example, dressing table sets, luncheon tablemat sets and even lace gloves.
These days we tend to have less use for the above decorative items, but this modern beautiful jewellery with a victorian feel does look divine!
